RIK

The opportunities I get at Orthometals have allowed me to think about the future again.

I didn't really know what else to do. Unfortunately, I hadn't completed an education and didn't know where to start. Through the grapevine, I ended up at Orthometals. Here, I was given the opportunity to work in bulk sorting, and after a short time, I also studied to get my truck driving license. Now I have a multifaceted job, where sometimes I work in the sorting hall, and sometimes I am away for a week on a trip somewhere in Europe. Now I can say I have completed an education and will start German classes this year. I never used to think much about my future, but because of the opportunities I get at Orthometals, I do now. I have so much respect for this company!

BART

It is wonderful to be able to develop myself within a company.

My name is Bart and I live in Zwolle. After a difficult period in my life, I found myself with quite a gap in my CV. It was difficult to find a new job again, because what company is going to hire someone who has been sitting at home for months? It was 2019 and then the jobs weren't there for the taking anyway. Eventually I ended up at Orthometals through an employment agency. I had an interview with Hidde and he saw something in me. I started in coarse sorting in general and now together with a colleague, we are the two specialists in the cobalt sorting process. We recently made a trip to America to teach the new American colleagues there how to sort. That was a really cool experience. I am also busy getting my truck driving license. C is in and now on to CE. In the coming year I will also start German lessons, so that we as drivers can make ourselves understood on our German trips. It is nice to be able to develop further within a company.

Dario

My Argentinian heart is at Orthometals in Meppel, who would have thought?

For many years I worked in hospitals in Argentina, and then for several NGOs in different countries. I met my Dutch wife in Brazil,  and together we did several projects in developing countries. For the education of our children, we eventually moved to the Netherlands. Once in the Netherlands, it was quite difficult for me to settle in. The language is difficult, and the culture very different from what I was used to. So I made a conscious decision to look for a job outside healthcare. Through my brother-in-law, I came into contact with Orthometals and was soon hired as a sorter. To start at the bottom here (despite all my diplomas) like everyone else, I didn't see as a problem. At Orthometals, they saw that I work hard and had more to offer. I am now a foreman in fine grading, a member of the innovation team, and together we are achieving great results. I like to know exactly how something works and then want to investigate it all the way. In fine sorting I get all the space I need to improve and innovate the processes more and more. I also speak several languages and have therefore been to trade fairs in South America twice. There I was able to use my Spanish to attract new customers for Orthometals. My Argentinian heart lies with Orthometals in Meppel, now who could have imagined that?

Lim

It feels very familiar at Orthometals.

My name is Hyo Sun Lim, but everyone in the Netherlands calls me Lim. I am 31 years old and live with my boyfriend in Meppel. Originally I am from South Korea and there I was a data analyst. I met my boyfriend during a trip around the world and for love I eventually moved to the Netherlands. My boyfriend has his own company and I do the administration for that, but I also wanted to find my own work here. When you don't speak the language very well yet, it's quite difficult. Orthometals saw my resume and during our first interview I was immediately presented with options. I was allowed to start in fine sorting and learn how to pick the smallest metals. This went very well and now I'm also working with colleagues to optimize all of Orthometals' data. In addition, through Orthometals I get Dutch lessons from a teacher who comes on location and next year I get to go along to a fair in South Korea. Then I can share my knowledge about Orthometals and also see my family again. Of course, I have already mapped out all the dates for Korea. It feels very familiar at Orthometals.
